'The Art of Romance' 18K Yellow Gold Tsavorite Ring - Chow Sang Sang - Amongst the pieces included in the jewellery collection of the V&A is an engraved gold ring from the 15th century set with emeralds. Enamelled and decorative rings from this time often fall within a tradition of mediaeval ‘love rings’. Historically, a valuable ring may have been given as a token of love, or alternatively presented as a symbol of loyalty. This ring is distinguished as a substantial and noteworthy item by the usage of gems in the design. Although much of it history has been lost to the passage of time, the original owner definitely valued the piece.
