At approximately three years of age, bacterial composition and diversity is most like those of adults.</p> <p>A child is affected by bacteria from his mother, environment close to him and diet. Lactic acid bacteria are one of the first bacteria colonising infant’s gut, therefore the intake of these bacteria during early childhood is beneficial. The factors modifying a child’s microbiota the most are diet and use of antibiotics.
