When I began writing Ghost at the Gallows, the specter of death was as present as ever. This album navigates a world where ghosts are real and haunt us in the form of grief, trauma, and loss. Despite the theme, the songs are not solely dark dirges. The music is diverse and dynamic, ranging from melancholic, Southern rock-tinged acoustic passages to aggressive speed metal attacks... and everything in between. And as with every entry in the Spirit Adrift catalog, the lyrics are about finding the good in the bad, strength in weakness, and hope in darkness. It wasn't until I finished the record that I realized all stages of grief are represented on this album. Perhaps these songs were my unconscious attempt at easing my own grieving process.
