On May 26th, 2023, The Poison Chalice, a demonic beast, will be unleashed upon humanity! Founded in 1990 as Occult and reborn in 2005 with founding members Maurice Swinkels and Erik Fleuren as LEGION OF THE DAMNED, the band appears for the first time as a quintet on The Poison Chalice, joining guitarist Twan van Geel and bassist Harold Gielen with guitarist Fabian Verweij. The new permanent band member expands the band's sound spectrum, which has been making no prisoners and breaking many necks with their uniquely aggressive thrash for decades. With their previous album Slaves Of The Shadow Realms (2019), they achieved their best result in Germany, reaching number 17 on the Official German Album Charts. In the first few seconds, The Poison Chalice spreads its cruel wings before the opener 'Saints in Torment' plunges headfirst into the demons of the underworld, which it literally kills shortly after on 'Contamination.' In classic LEGION OF THE DAMNED fashion, there is no escape as the album relentlessly drives towards the abyss. Powerful drums and devastating guitar harmonies are driven by furious bass lines, spreading brutal and icy thrash soundscapes. Captivating thrash treasures like 'Progressive Destructor' or the nearly 7-minute berserker 'Behold The Beyond' are characterized by pounding guitar riffs and bloody double bass infernos. 'Beheading Of The Godhead' delivers what the song title promises, before the 48 minutes of hatred end with a final deep sip from 'The Poison Chalice,' leaving no one alive. Together with producer Erwin Hermsen, the band has closed the gates of the underworld at Toneshed Studio and shows that, even in 2023, they are still the undisputed masters of brutal and aggressive death-thrash metal!'
