Buena Vista Social Club: 25th Anniversary Edition – Bookpack (2-LP & 2-CD) 'Buena Vista Social Club' is both the name of this extraordinary group of musicians and the Album that was recorded in just seven days at Havana's 1950s Vintage EGREM Studios in 1996. The atmosphere during the recording sessions quickly made it clear that something very special was being created. However, no one expected Buena Vista Social Club to become a global phenomenon - awarded a Grammy in 1997 and selling 8 million units, making it the top of its genre. The success of the original Album has turned the artists (such as Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubén González & Omara Portuondo) into superstars, inspired an award-winning film by Wim Wenders, and helped popularize Cuba's rich musical heritage. The timeless quality of the music, produced by Ry Cooder for World Circuit, and the talent of these great musicians have ensured that the Album has become a milestone of the 20th century. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Album's recording, producer Ry Cooder and World Circuit's Nick Gold returned to the original tapes and archives to compile this deluxe remaster package. The newly remastered Album includes previously unreleased songs from the original 1996 recording sessions, unpublished photos, and new liner notes.
