With Charlie Dominici on vocals, they took their first steps to becoming one of the most well-known progressive metal bands in the world. With piercing riffs and jazzy parts, Dream Theater showcases their influences from 70s and 80s prog rock. As a milestone in the development of progressive metal, it is an album full of atmospheric keyboard sounds, epic vocals, and powerful riffs. When Dream and Day Unite was a fantastic start towards massive popularity, which the band would achieve a few years later. After the release of their first top-selling album Images & Words (1992), they had truly made a breakthrough and reached a huge audience.
