Baest (the Danish word for ‘beast’) are a classic death metal quintet from Denmark who have only been active since 2015 and are the common musical denominator of Bloodbath, Dismember, Bolt Thrower and a bit of the 90s Morbid Angel. Mastered by Lawrence Mackrory (LIK, Firespawn, Decapitated), their debut album ‘Danse Macabre’ features blazing guitars in top Swedish style. The Boss HM-2 Pedal is miraculous, frontman Simon’s vocals are wonderfully deep and the songs are gripping yet diversified thanks to various atmospheric twists, furious blasts, excellent melodies and steamrolling passages. Guitarists Svend and Lasse and bassist Matthias headbang so hard it’s a wonder their heads stay on, and vocalist Simon delivers a thrilling, manic performance.
